Who plays who in Serie A over Christmas?

With a busy festive period ahead for Roma and the rest of Serie A, we look at who plays who during a stuffed pre-Christmas schedule for Italy’s top-flight.

AC MILAN

16 December - 2-2 vs Genoa (a)
20 December - 1-2 vs Sassuolo (a)
23 December - vs Lazio (h)

Rafael Leao registered the fastest goal in Serie A history with his fine finish after just six seconds to set Milan on course for a 2-1 win at Sassuolo that not only eased their attacking concerns with talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out through injury, but also kept AC top going into their final match of 2020 at home to Lazio.

INTER MILAN

16 December - 1-0 vs Napoli (h)
20 December - 2-1 vs Spezia (h)
23 December - 2-1 vs Hellas Verona (a)

JUVENTUS

16 December - 1-1 vs Atalanta (h)
19 December - 0-4 vs Parma (a)
22 December - 0-3 vs Fiorentina (h)

ROMA

17 December - 3-1 vs Torino (h)
20 December - 4-1 vs Atalanta (a)
23 December - vs Cagliari (h)

The Giallorossi made it eight goals and two wins on the spin with the 3-1 dismissal of Torino on Thursday night, but were on the wrong end of a 4-1 loss at Atalanta going into the final game of the year at the Stadio Olimpico, where victory over Cagliari will secure their place in the top-four when the new year is rung in.

NAPOLI

16 December - 1-0 vs Inter (a)
20 December - 2-0 vs Lazio (a)
23 December - vs Torino (h)

Gennaro Gattuso’s side had won their last three prior to defeats to first Inter and then Lazio, and will be hoping the return of Lorenzo Insigne will provide a vital boost ahead of the visit of Torino, although Dries Mertens and Victor Osimhen may still be absent.

SASSUOLO

16 December - 1-1 vs Fiorentina (a)
20 December - 1-2 vs Milan (h)
23 December - vs Sampdoria (a)

Defeat to pace setting Milan means Sassuolo have won just one of their last five in the league (W1, D2, L2) but they will take their unbeaten away record to Sampdoria feeling confident of adding to their four wins from six games on the road thus far.

ATALANTA

16 December - 1-1 vs Juventus (a)
20 December - 4-1 vs Roma (h)
23 December - vs Bologna (a)

Remo Freuler's thumping effort secured a 1-1 draw at the reigning champions to kick-off Atalanta's heavy workload, backed up by their second half comeback at Roma - a match that saw club captain Papu Gomez not named in the matchday squad as doubts continue to grow over his future at the club.

LAZIO

15 December - 1-1 vs Benevento (a)
20 December - 2-0 vs Napoli (h)
23 December - vs Milan (a)

Coach Simone Inzaghi blamed fatigued for his team’s defeat at home to Verona as they slipped to seventh-place, and could only muster up a 1-1 draw at Benevento but goals from Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto sealed a good win over Napoli as they prepare for a trip to Milan to take on the current front-runners.

HELLAS VERONA

16 December - 1-2 vs Sampdoria (h)
19 December - 1-1 vs Fiorentina (a)
23 December - 1-2 vs Inter (h)

SAMPDORIA

16 December - 1-2 vs Hellas Verona (a)
19 December - 3-1 vs Crotone (h)
23 December - vs Sassuolo (h)

Claudio Ranieri's side have back-to-back wins for the second time this season after beating Verona and Crotone in the space of four days to move La Samp into the top-half, but the former Roma boss will be sweating over the fitness of Alex Ferrari after the centre-back limped off after just eight minutes in midweek.

UDINESE

15 December - 0-0 vs Crotone (h)
20 December - 1-1 vs Cagliari (a)
23 December - vs Benevento (h)

Udinese were second-bottom as recently as Matchday 7 but they rocketed up the league courtesy of three successive victories prior to their pair of points against Crotone and Cagliari that keeps them unbeaten in their last six matches before the visit of Benevento.

BENEVENTO

15 December - 1-1 vs Lazio (h)
20 December - 2-0 vs Genoa (h)
23 December - vs Udinese (a)

Benevento are enjoying a resurgence of their own under coach Filippo Inzaghi, whose side followed up an excellent point at home to Lazio with victory over Genoa on Sunday and they will welcome back Pasquale Schiattarella from suspension when they look to leapfrog Udinese this Wednesday.

CAGLIARI

16 December - 0-0 vs Parma (a)
20 December - 1-1 vs Udinese (h)
23 December - vs Roma (a)

Six matches without a win, Cagliari were looking over their shoulders before successive draws with Parma and Udinese and, having featured as a substitute in each of their last three games, Giovanni Simeone is pushing for a start at the Stadio Olimpico as the Sardinians go in search of ending that winless run.

BOLOGNA

16 December - 2-2 vs Spezia (a)
20 December - 1-1 vs Torino (a)
23 December - vs Atalanta (h)

Bologna are now four games without a win and would have hoped to have ended that barren sequence away to either Spezia or Torino, but must now attempt to do so at home to Atalanta.

PARMA

16 December - 0-0 vs Cagliari (h)
19 December - 0-4 vs Juventus (h)
22 December - 2-1 vs Crotone (a)

FIORENTINA

16 December - 1-1 vs Sassuolo (h)
19 December - 1-1 vs Hellas Verona (h)
22 December - 0-3 vs Juventus (a)

SPEZIA

16 December - 2-2 vs Bologna (h)
20 December - 2-1 vs Inter (a)
23 December - vs Genoa (h)

Spezia may have been dismissed by Inter in their previous outing, but they remain a team capable of surprises and M'Bala Nzola - who has six goals in nine Serie A appearances - could prove decisive as they look to put breathing space between themselves and Wednesday's visitors Genoa on MD14.

TORINO

17 December - 1-3 vs Roma (a)
20 December - 1-1 vs Bologna (h)
23 December - vs Napoli (a)

Torino are now 10 games without a win (D4, L6) in the top-flight and are in need of inspiration if they are to end the year on a high at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, a game that will see Wilfried Singo return from suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card in the loss to the Giallorossi.

GENOA

16 December - 2-2 vs Milan (h)
20 December - 2-0 vs Benevento (a)
23 December - vs Spezia (a)

Genoa are the only side Torino have beaten this year, with the Grifone not tasting victory themselves since the opening day, and they will also be hoping to close the gap on Spezia - and safety - to one point with victory over their MD14 hosts.

CROTONE

15 December - 0-0 Udinese (a)
19 December - 3-1 vs Sampdoria (a)
22 December - 2-1 vs Parma (h)
