The club celebrated World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April by visiting the Associazione Ciampacavallo, one of the capital's most important centres for providing assistance to people with physical, mental and sensory disabilities, using horses as a comprehensive educational tool.
The Giallorossi delegation, led by mascot Romolo, was made up of several young players from the club’s youth teams who were able to see for themselves what the facility was all about. The Associazione Ciampacavallo has cared for approximately 1,200 people over 25 years, many of whom have severe autism spectrum disorders and have been referred from other day care centres.
Welcomed by president Matteo De Lorenzo and other staff from the Associazione Ciampacavallo, the young Roma players learned about the activities that the centre's residents perform daily with horses and in the workshops dedicated to educational and training activities. This initiative promotes inclusion and empowerment for people with mental and physical disabilities through recreational, educational, sports and rehabilitation activities.
The riding experience and the introduction to screen printing were particularly appreciated by the visitors, allowing them to practice their craft and hand-print T-shirts with the motto ‘Siamo Pazzi Quanto Ribelli’ (We Are As Crazy As We Are Rebellious), a reference to the famous ancient Roman acronym SPQR.
At the end of the visit, the club donated some official clothing to the centre's management, which the children will be able to use for sports and recreational activities.
The Associazione Ciampacavallo
The Associazione Ciampacavallo’s work is inspired by the idea that horses offer a unique opportunity for personal growth, socialisation and physical and mental well-being. Qualified trainers, educators, therapists and industry experts accompany each individual on a tailor-made programme, placing the relationship between the horse and the individual at the centre.
The equestrian centre, which serves as the heart of the project, offers courses dedicated to education, sport and rehabilitation, with particular attention to the needs of people with psychophysical and sensory difficulties, using horses as a comprehensive educational tool.
