The meeting took place on 25 March, as the representatives of the association named after Andrea Tudisco, a 10-year-old child who passed away from leukemia in 1997, welcomed the Roma player at their centre, where he met the children at the facility and spent a few pleasant hours with them.
The two rooms adopted by AS Roma will provide a safe haven for one year for families with children who need to travel to Rome to receive special treatment and are unable to afford to pay for their own accommodation.
Stephan El Shaarawy took the opportunity to play some football with the young guests of the facility and wish them a happy Easter filled with hope and happiness.
The Associazione Andrea Tudisco was founded on 17 October 1997 thanks to Andrea’s parents, Fiorella and Nicola Tudisco, as well as their closest friends, following the passing of their 10-year-old child from leukemia. As the child was hospitalised at the Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital in Rome, the family witnessed many situations of social hardship, in particular families that were forced to leave their country of origin to have their children treated. Fiorella showed her solidarity as she hosted a struggling mother in her home, and that act marked the start of the family’s initiative.
The family was inspired by the memory of their son Andrea and chose to turn their grief into tangible help. The association has been carrying on their mission for over 25 years, offering support and hospitality to families of children being treated in Rome’s best healthcare facilities.
