Rüdiger, who was named the best U19 players in Germany in 2012, is the fifth player to join Roma this summer after the arrivals of Iago Falque from Genoa, Mohamed Salah from Chelsea, Edin Džeko from Manchester City and Wojciech Szczesny on loan from Arsenal.
The German defender wore the No. 24 shirt at Stuttgart, but with that jersey already taken by Alessandro Florenzi at Trigoria, Rüdiger will wear No. 2 this season. He previously wore the same number in matches for the German U21 side.
The No. 2 shirt is something of an historic jersey at Roma, having been previously worn by Giallorossi legends Luigi Brunella, Sebino Nela and Cafu.
