99 years ago, three clubs merged into AS Roma

Today marks the 99th anniversary of the club’s establishment.

AS Roma was established in the spring of 1927 through the merger of three football clubs: Alba-Audace, Fortitudo-ProRoma and Foot Ball Club di Roma (better known as Roman).

As reported by the major newspapers of the time, the agreement was reached in the late afternoon of 7 June 1927.

“The respect that we all owe to AS Roma’s founding fathers is equal to respect we owe to the sentiment of our fans,” Dan and Ryan Friedkin said in a statement published one year ago by asroma.com. “This is why, fully aware of the historical value and significance of 7 June 1927 as the foundation of AS Roma, we have decided that 22 July will be the Club’s dedicated and special celebration day, a yearly milestone and anniversary to unite Roma fans and the club in pride and affection for AS Roma’s extraordinary heritage and history.”
