Here's what he had to say...
What do you know about Salzburg? Where do you think they rank in European football?
“The fact that they play regular Champions League football already means a lot. It's not easy for any team and I think it says a lot about Salzburg. We know we'll be facing tough opposition, as the boss said. It won't be easy but we'll be ready for it. We're certainly expecting a battle.”
It's often said that there's a psychological element to injuries. How much of an impact did the World Cup have and how different is it now that it's in the past? Are you more relaxed?
“When there's a competition like the World Cup coming up, everyone knows there's a risk you could miss out on a huge opportunity, whether it's through an injury, a knock, or anything else. It happened to some of my team-mates unfortunately. Knowing we had a chance of winning it, no one wanted to miss out.
I obviously try to look after myself the best I can and take care of all the little details. I have lots of people who help me with everything off the pitch. I try to always be 100% so that I can perform at my best. I've had a few nasty experiences unfortunately, but it happens to lots of people.”
What sort of mindset do you go back into the Europa League with after winning the World Cup? Do you think Roma are one of the favourites to win it?
“Winning the World Cup is one of the best things that can happen to you as a footballer. It's as good as it gets. This is a different competition that I've never won and I want to win it. I'll do my best with my team-mates and the coach to help Roma win this trophy.
“We know there are teams that are better than us, as the coach said, and they're bigger favourites because of their history of success, but you never know what can happen in football. Sometimes a lucky draw can help: for example, Barcelona and Manchester United have been pitted against each other so one of them will get knocked out.
“In any case, we have to focus on ourselves. We can't look any further unless we beat Salzburg.”
We're starting to hear rumours about your future. In Rome every wants to know about Mourinho's future and Dybala's future. Will we see you playing in a Roma shirt next season?
“With all due respect, the clause in my contract is between my agents and the club. I don't know what will happen at the end of the season. I don't even know what will happen to me, let alone the coach. You'd have to ask him.
“I'd like to be coached by him because he's one of the best and I want to win with him. Now I'm only thinking of tomorrow's game and playing well because there a long way still to go this season and lots of games to play. As I said, I want to win with Roma and I want Roma to be in the Champions League next season.”
Now that you've won the World Cup, how much do you miss not having won a European club trophy?
“Winning an international trophy is massive. I've never done it at club level – it's something I'm yet to achieve. I always say that winning helps you win more. I hope to continue on this path. I've been lucky to have won a lot of silverware in my career and I hope to add a few more European trophies.”
