After 120 minutes of goalless action, Roma goalkeeper Gabriele Baldi proved the hero of the hour as he made two early saves on the way to the Giallorossi’s 3-2 shootout victory.
Francesco Guidi’s side were good value for their eventual progression; with Niccolo Pisilli and Matteo Falasca among those to go close in a game where the Under-19s hit the woodwork three times.
“Considering what the boys produced out there, I think we deserved to go through – because we created a lot,” Guidi said afterwards.
“We were also pretty unlikely, because we hit the post twice and the bar as well.
“We were solid out there. We were positioned well, we paid attention to when we needed to press or drop back. Today we controlled the game and the spaces. And I think because of that, and the chances we ended up creating, we deserved to go through.”
