Roma 4-0 Bodo/Glimt: Zaniolo the hat-trick hero!

Roma breezed into the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League with a 4-0 thrashing of Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, the Giallorossi made light work of the Norwegian champions – as Nicolo Zaniolo scored a hat-trick (his first for the club) after Tammy Abraham had erased the existing deficit early on.

Roma will face Premier League side Leicester City for a place in the final: the two legs will take place on April 28 and May 5.

For the third time in five seasons Roma will play in a European semi-final, after they got revenge on a side that picked up four points against them in the group stage of the competition.

Knowing the needed to score at least once to have any hope of progressing it was Tammy Abraham who ticket that box after just five minutes; the Englishman prodding home after the Bodo goalkeeper had failed to deal with a threatening in-swinging corner.

From that point the visitors seemed somewhat shellshocked – and it was Nicolo Zaniolo who took full advantage. The young forward barrelled through the defence time and time again before finishing off, as assists from Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nicola Zalewski and Bryan Cristante allowed him to show off a range of finishing.

That virtuoso performance was more than enough to kill off the Bodo threat, as they only created a handful of chances across the 90 minutes.

Roma could perhaps have had a few more – Zaniolo going close to another, as did Tammy Abraham and substitute Felix Afena-Gyan – but it was nevertheless party time at the Olimpico long before the final whistle.

In the competition's other semi-final, Olympique Marseille will face Feyenoord.
