AS Roma and Roma Natura unite to implement sustainable practices

AS Roma is delighted to announce a new accord with Roma Natura, which will see the club embark on a range of eco-friendly and sustainable practices.

AS Roma is delighted to announce a new accord with Roma Natura, which will see the club embark on a range of eco-friendly practices: starting by making the Trigoria training centre increasingly green and sustainable.

The accord with the local body, which was formally unveiled on Friday morning, will initially see the club embark on a series of amendments around the Fulvio Bernardini Sports Centre in order to improve its green credentials.

The two parties have also agreed a commitment to teaching the next generation of youngsters in Rome about the importance of environmental matters.

In terms of upgrading the training centre, the club has embarked on restructuring work that will guarantee an energy saving of around 96 megawatts per year, enough to reduce CO2 emissions by 34,000 grams.

The amount of trees on site at Trigoria will also be almost doubled, from 462 to 833.

This restruction of the club’s training centre will also include a new façade around the many buildings on site, to better fit in within the nature reserve (La Riserva Naturale di Decima Malafede) that surrounds the complex.

Alongside those changes, the club and Roma Natura will partner on environmental education courses for young members of the club’s academy and soccer schools.

For that reason, boys and girls from those institutions were also present at Friday’s event, as representatives from both institutions underlined their commitment to build a sustainable culture that would support future generations.

“We are pleased, because the work we have been doing over the last few months will allow us to start to look towards the future from an increasingly green and sustainable perspective,” said Francesco Pastorella, AS Roma’s Sustainability and Community Relations Department Director.

“The target is to reduce CO2 emissions. Within the club that is a responsibility we all feel we have towards the next generation, as has been shown with a number of recent initiatives around the training ground.

“It is a process that will progress over the next three or four years. We want to educate youngsters - not just those from our youth academies but throughout the city – with the aim of helping inspire a cultural change.”

Roma Natura was represented at the event by its president, Maurizio Gubbiotti.

“It’s a moment that we are particularly pleased about,” Gubbiotti said. “Roma has always been eager to use its energy to help social causes.

“The protocol we have in place will see the club plant hundreds of new trees. That’s an important move because large-scale planting will help us fight against climate change and help build a city that is more resilient to future challenges.”
