Roma Women 2-0 Sassuolo: Pirone at the double!

Alessandro Spugna’s side ended their opponents’ 100 per cent start to the campaign at Trigoria, as Valeria Pirone continued her fine recent run of form with both goals.

"We put in a great performance, exactly what I wanted," Spugna said afterwards.

"Not because the performances before were not good - because they were - but because we didn't get the results to go with them. Today we had that hunger to get an important win, and I think the girls gave everything to do that."

Pirone, who also scored twice for Italy during the recent international break, notched from close range either side of half-time, in a game where the Giallorosse created all the best opportunities.

Indeed Pirone could perhaps have had herself a hat-trick on another day, as a number of her teammates also went close.

"I'm really pleased for Valeria, she's a great girl and she always trains really well," Spugna added.

"She's been a bit unlucky at times so far this season, but today she got the rewards she deserved."

The result keeps Roma in touch with the Neroverdi and the rest of the chasing pack in the race for Champions League qualification.
