After a tense, turgid first half in Salerno, Jose Mourinho's side really turned it on after the half-time break - scoring some beautiful goals and playing some slick football as they overwhelmed their recently-promoted opponents.
It was captain Lorenzo Pellegrini who broke the deadlock just minutes into the second half, setting the stage for what was to come.
Jordan Veretout then finished off an incisive team move moments later, before Tammy Abraham added his first goal in Italian football with a clinical first-time finish.
When Pellegrini rounded off the scoring with a measured curler from the edge of the box, Roma had rounded off one of the most impressive periods of play in the team's recent memory.
Mourinho will countless reflect on the first half, where Roma struggled to create clear-cut openings, but whatever he may have said during the interval surely had an impact - because it did not take long for the Giallorossi to address things in the second half.
It was Matias Vina who helped in that regard, as his clever ball into the box found Pellegrini in space; space the captain used to drive a low shot into the bottom corner.
With Salernitana forced to come out of their shell the Giallorossi were able to exploit a bit more space in the final third - although there was little the opposition could have done anyway to prevent Veretout sweeping home after a slick one-touch move involved Rick Karsdorp, Abraham and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Abraham then got his reward for his hard work with his first Serie A goal - sweeping home a brilliant one-touch effort that clattered off the inside of the post.
And there was still time for Pellegrini to send everyone off into the international break in the highest of spirits, as he opened his body up to curl one into the top corner from 20 yards out.
