In today's Roma Fan Club Spotlight, we speak to Waleed Ammar Shalida, co-founder of Roma Club Libya...

What can you tell the readers about yourself and your role with Roma Club Libya?

Waleed Ammar Shalida: “My name is Waleed Ammar Shalida, and I am the co-founder of Roma Club Libya. I have been a Roma supporter since I was a child. I created Roma Club Libya to connect with fellow Romanisti throughout Tripoli and all of Libya.”

When was Roma Club Libya formed and what was the idea behind setting up the club?

Shalida: “We started with just a Facebook page in 2012, sharing player features, photos, and club news. As the Facebook page grew, I began to connect with Libyan fans who not only interacted with each other online, but wanted to watch matches and connect in person. After five years, Roma Club Libya became an official fan club in 2017.”

Have any members of Roma Club Libya attended matches in person this season?

Shalida: “Yes, many members have attended matches this season! Some have watched the team at the Stadio Olimpico; and others, including myself, travelled to Istanbul to watch the team take on Basaksehir, where we won 3-0!”

What activities does Roma Club Libya participate in, beyond watch parties?

Shalida: “In Libya, we LOVE football, whether we are watching or playing. We have a football team that has participated in the European Fan Clubs Tournament in Libya, and made it to the final. We also participated in the Libyan-Italian Friendship Day celebration, organised by the Italian embassy.”

What is your favourite moment since Roma Club Libya was formed?

Shalida: “Before Roma Club Libya was created, it was definitely winning the Scudetto in 2001. Since our club’s inception, it was definitely the comeback against Barcelona. That historic match had Roma supporters celebrating across Tripoli!”

What does it mean for Roma Club Libya to be a part of the global Roma family?

"Roma is our football family, and being a member is a huge honour. Through thick and thin, we will always support the club that we love. We already can’t wait for next season to start."
