We asked Bryan Cristante to recommend five of his favourite films for fans to watch during the current quarantine period...

Besides being a key presence in coach Paulo Fonseca’s engine room, midfielder Cristante is also a big film fan.

During this period where everyone is being asked to stay at home for the safety of themselves and others, we asked the Italy international to recommend five of his favourite films for fans to watch during the lockdown.

“The film is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first black player to play in baseball’s major leagues in the United States. Baseball is a sport that has always interested me, and occasionally I’ve gone to the States to watch a few games too. However, this film struck a chord with me for other reasons; it delivers important messages and helps remind you that sport can be a powerful medium to send out important messages to wider society.”

Straight Outta Compton

“I listen to a lot of rap music, and this film recounts the early years of one part of that movement in music. It’s great to be able to understand the stories behind some of the early pioneers that helped create the widespread and diverse hip-hop culture that we all know today. For those passionate about music it is definitely one to watch, as it follows the careers of some of the early icons of that genre – Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube.”

The Art of Racing in the Rain

“I watched this one recently, and I think it’s a story that everyone will really enjoy – but especially those who love animals. I have two Alaskan Malamutes, Mia and Tanisha, and this film draws you into a dog’s world and how they see things. I would recommend it to everyone who loves that sort of film.”

Man on Fire

“With this one we are talking about a film from a few years back, but I’m choosing it because of how much I love Denzel Washington – he’s one of my favourite actors. In this particular instance the plot is very engaging and there’s a lot of action – but at the end of the day I love everything Denzel does, so I might be a bit biased…”

Le Mans ’66 (Ford v Ferrari)

“This film hasn’t been out that long – it tells the true story of the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari when both were competing to win the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1966. For those who, like me, are big fans of cars and motorsport it’s definitely one to watch. The plot is very compelling and I really enjoyed it.”
