The Brazilian, who represented the Giallorossi from 1980 to 1985, was a key member of the club's Scudetto-winning side in 1983.
In total he played 157 games for the club, scoring 27 goals.
He also won the Coppa Italia twice with the club, and helped them reach the final of the European Cup in 1984.
At international level, he represented Brazil at two World Cups - in 1982 and 1986. In 2004, to celebrate FIFA's 100th anniversary, he was selected by compatriot Pele as being among the 125 best players in the history of the game.
