Euro 2016 pain for Dzeko and Pjanic

Džeko and Pjanic miss out on Euro 2016

Edin Džeko and Miralem Pjanic will not be taking part in Euro 2016 next summer after Bosnia and Herzegovina slipped to a 2-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland in the second leg of their qualification play-off

Džeko’s equalising goal in the 1-1 first-leg draw had kept Bosnia’s hope alive but a Jonathan Walters brace at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Monday night sent Ireland through and killed Bosnia’s hopes of building on their qualification for the 2014 World Cup by securing a European Championships berth for the first time.

After the game, Džeko – who captained Bosnia last night – admitted that the best team had won the play-off tie.

"We are not better than Ireland,” claimed the Roma No.9. “If we were, we would have won and taken the road to France. I am sorry we didn't."

A further eight Giallorossi players will be in international action today. Radja Nainggolan will not be involved after Belgium’s friendly in Spain was called off due to the high security alert in the country.

Lucas Digne’s France will take on England at Wembley Stadium in London.

Alessandro Florenzi is part of the Italy squad to take on Romania in Bologna this evening.

Kostas Manolas and Vasilis Torosidis’ Greece have a home clash against Turkey.

Antonio Rüdiger’s Germany side take on Holland in Hanover.

Norbert Gyomber is set to be involved in Slovakia’s match against Iceland, while Wojciech Szczesny’s Poland take on the Czech Republic.

Gervinho’s Ivory Coast host Chad in the second leg of their World Cup 2018 qualifying tie. Ivory Coast beat Chad 1-0 away in the first leg.
