Wendell Lira wins FIFA Puskas Award

Brazilian footballer Wendell Lira has beaten Alessandro Florenzi and Lionel Messi to the FIFA Puskas Award this evening

At the Ballon d'Or award ceremony, former Giallorossi star Hidetoshi Nakata presented the Goianesia player with the prize for scoring the best goal of 2015 against Atletico Goianiense in a state championship game in Brazil.

Earlier in the afternoon, Florenzi – who ended up in third place – expressed his delight at merely being involved in the award ceremony in Zurich, saying that he was happy and honoured to be among so many superstars of football's past and present.

Here's a clip of the goal that earned Lira the Puskas Award, along with the efforts from the other two finalists: Florenzi's strike against Barcelona in the opening game of Group E in the Champions League 2015-16 and Lionel Messi's solo effort for the Catalan club against Athletic Bilbao in the final of the Copa del Rey.
