Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon today insisted that despite his age, Francesco Totti could still add value to Antonio Conte’s squad for the European Championships this summer.
Buffon – who was appearing in a video for the Rome 2024 Olympic bid in which he was interviewed by a group of children – was asked whether he would take Totti to the Euros.
“I’d take him anywhere, because he can play well anywhere,” the Juventus star told the children. “With his talent, he’s the kind of player that can decide a match at any time. There aren’t many players with that level of quality, so he deserves everything he gets.”
The veteran goalkeeper has shared many a success with Totti during an international career that has seen him win 156 caps for Italy.
After early triumphs at the 1996 European Under-21 Championships and 1997 Mediterranean Games, both men were key parts of the Italy squad that won the 2006 World Cup, after which the Giallorossi captain decided to retire from international football.
