Francesco Totti clocked up his 600th Serie A match in a Roma shirt when he came on against Chievo.
Daniele De Rossi played his 387th league game, overtaking Giacomo Losi in second place in Roma's all-time list of Serie A appearance-makers
His Roma career stretched over 285 appearances in the league from 1928 to 1939 and included 47 goals, of which five came against bitter rivals Lazio. In his position in central midfield, Bernardini was the heartbeat of the famous Testaccio side. He moved to Roma in 1928 after previously playing for Inter. At the time, it was a huge signing – for the first time a superstar from one of the northern clubs had made the switch south to the capital. As a player, he notched two doubles in two 5-0 victories that will go down in the history of AS Roma – firstly against Juventus in 1931 and then against Lazio in 1933. In 1985, Dino Volta made the decision to dedicate the training ground in Trigoria to the Roma and Italy legend.
Tancredi pulled on his keeper's gloves 289 times for Roma in Serie A between 1977 and 1990, which included a run of 258 back-to-back performances from 17 April 1980 to 29 January 1989. He protected the Giallorossi goal during the 1982-83 Scudetto-winning season. He wasn't the tallest of goalkeepers, but made up for this with extraordinary reflexes, remarkable pace off the line and an unquestionable ability at saving penalties – just consider the consecutive Coppa Italia finals against Torino in 1980 and 1981, both of which were won on penalties.
The Italian World Cup-winner made 304 appearances across 16 seasons in the capital, scoring 37 goals. More than 70,000 Giallorossi fans filled the Stadio Olimpico as Conti said goodbye to his playing career on 23 May 1991, just one day after the second leg of the heart-breaking UEFA Cup final against Inter. He was a modern winger, seemingly drawn straight out of the South American playing manual. He had exceptional pace, a velvety touch and an ability to feint and dribble that led the fans to nickname him “Marazico” (a cross between Diego Maradona and Arthur Zico). Conti was a mainstay in the 1982-83 Scudetto triumph.
The Prince made his Serie A debut in 1982 at only 17 years old and went on to play 319 games for AS Roma, hitting the back of the net 49 times. He was a member of the 1982-83 Scudetto-winning squad, but didn't actually pick up any playing time. He was nominated as captain in 1986 and led the Giallorossi for the next ten years as the club passed through a difficult period. One of his best moments must be the wonderful goal he scored against Foggia in 1994 that lifted Roma out of the relegation zone. His hat-trick in the second leg of the Coppa Italia final in 1992-93, handing his team a 5-2 victory against Torino, will also live long in the memory (unfortunately it wasn't enough to claim the trophy after the 3-0 defeat suffered in the first leg).
He arrived in Trigoria in 1990 from Benfica and, 330 appearances later, made his final bow in 2003. In the meantime, he established himself as a favourite of the Giallorossi crowd. His undeniable class ensured he quickly became the go-to figure in both Roma's backline and the Brazil defence that was crowned world champions in 1994. He was an ever-present in the 1990s, representing Roma with pride and a sense of belonging. His loyal years of service were rewarded in 2001 when he finally got his hands on the Scudetto. His last run-out at the Stadio Olimpico on 2 June 2003 was christened 'Aldair Day', a fitting tribute to the great man's Giallorossi career.
From 1930 to 1943 he was the last line of defence in the Giallorossi team, playing 338 times in the process. His positioning between the sticks was extraordinary and he could always be counted on to claim the ball. He was captain for Roma's first-ever Scudetto in 1941-42 and proved to be one of the stand-out players across the whole season. In a derby match in 1936, he battled through the entire game with a dislocated shoulder, which promoted Fulvio Bernardini to exclaim: “Even with one hand you're better than anyone else!”. He was there in the stands in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on 8 May 1983 when Roma secured the second league title in their history.
Santarini picked up 344 caps in Serie A as a Roma player, pulling on the captain's armband 150 times and hitting the back of the net on five occasions. His Giallorossi career spanned from 1968 to 1981 and amazingly, he didn't miss a single league fixture for three consecutive seasons from 1975 to 1978. An elegant defender, he was blessed with faultless technique. He lifted the Coppa Italia three times in a Roma shirt and also won the Anglo-Italian Cup. His time in Rome will be remembered as the bridge between Giacomo Losi's era and the glory years of the 1980s.
Losi made 386 Giallorossi appearances from 1954 to 1969 and was captain for 299 of them, after being given the armband for the first time in 1960-61. For most people, he symbolised the heart of the club. He played his first-ever Serie A game against Inter in 1955 and soon made a name for himself as a defender who embodied excellent sportsmanship. In fact, he was never booked or sent off until the last game he featured in, when he picked up a yellow card. His tenacity was legendary, no one could drag him off the field of play even if he was injured. As a Roma player, he won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1960-61 and the Coppa Italia on two occasions in 1963-64 and 1968-69.
To date, his record reads 387 appearances and 37 goals. His Serie A debut came when he was just 19 years old against Como at the Stadio Olimpico in January 2003. He was handed his first start in a Roma shirt four months later against Torino and he marked the occasion by opening his Giallorossi goalscoring account. Up to 2006-07 he wore shirt No. 4, but ever since then he has chosen to don No. 16. De Rossi once revealed in an interview that his biggest regret was that he only had one footballing career to give to his beloved AS Roma.
So far Totti has made 600 appearances for Roma in Serie A. He's also played more than any other striker in the Italian top division and has picked up 243 goals to date, exclusively for the Giallorossi. At 16 years old, he made his debut against Brescia on 28 March 1993 and he's still playing today at the ripe old age of 39. He has worn the No. 10 shirt since the 1997-98 season and he was appointed captain the following year. Finally, he scored the opening goal against Parma on 17 June 2001, the match that handed Roma their third Scudetto.
