Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)

The 38-year-old was in exceptional form as Juventus beat Milan on Saturday night. Buffon made a couple of ridiculous double saves to prevent Milan from scoring, and his long ball led to The Old Lady making it 1-1. Juventus have now won 21 of their last 22 Serie A games.

Defenders

Lorenzo Tonelli (Empoli)

Tonelli was a beast at the back as he kept Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinić in his back pocket. The Italian centre-back was vital in Empoli turning around their fortunes, going from a four-game winless run to winning only their third Tuscan Derby.

Alessandro Gamberini (Chievo Verona)

The 34-year-old centre-back was solid as Chievo recorded three wins on the bounce for the first time since December 2013. Chievo are now 16 points clear of the relegation zone.

Alex (AC Milan)

Alex often plays well in the big games and that was the case against Juventus on Saturday, and the Brazilian centre-back even got on the scoresheet to give Milan the lead. Although he will be disappointed with the way the equaliser was conceded, all-in-all it was a good game for the 33-year-old.

Midfielders

Paul Pogba (Juventus)

PogBOOM was integral in everything positive for Juventus and continued his great form by hitting the post from an excellent free-kick and then scoring the winner as Juventus continue their excellent run. Juventus have now won five games from a trailing position, a record in this season’s Serie A.

Blerim Džemaili (Genoa)

The Swiss midfielder was a threat going forward in a box-to-box role, and was able to score for a third successive game against Sassuolo in which he has started. Genoa now have 40 points, the marker most managers look to achieve as the bare minimum before the start of the season.

Bruno Peres (Torino)

Bruno Peres got his first goal in almost a year to open the scoring, and then his ambitious ball forward led to Maxi López making it 2-0. The Brazilian was a constant threat and led to Marten de Roon receiving a second yellow.

Mohamed Salah (Roma)

Salah was the architect of Roma’s recovery into the match as he scored the equaliser, but was also very unlucky as he also hit the post an astonishing three times. Since the turn of the year, the Egyptian winger has scored seven goals; only two players have scored more in Serie A in that time.

José Callejón (Napoli)

The Spaniard was involved in all three Napoli goals as the Partenopei played their first game without Gonzalo Higuaín. His volley was saved and led to Gabbiadini’s opener, he then won the penalty for Napoli’s second, and then he coolly tapped home from six yards out after some excellent play by Omar El Kaddouri.

Strikers

Miroslav Klose (Lazio)

The German striker turned back the clock as he was at his clinical best to give Lazio a 2-0 first-half lead in the perfect start to the Simone Inzaghi era. In the second half, his header set Felipe Anderson through - who coolly beat Stefano Sorrentino.

Manuel Pucciarelli (Empoli)

The Empoli frontman was in excellent form as the Azzurri recorded their third win in the Tuscan Derby, and their first since 1997. Pucciarelli scored the opener and it was from his shot that Piotr Zieliński doubled the lead.
