De Sisti

Italian magazine 'Football and Cycling Illustrated' dedicated their cover page to Giancarlo De Sisti – depicted alongside coach Luis Carniglia – after the youngster scored his first Serie A goal in Roma 1-0 Fiorentina on 11 March 1962. This strike, which came a year and three days after his debut first-team goal in a Coppa Italia tie against Bologna, prompted the magazine to describe Giancarlo as “proud like an Ancient Roman”. A sign of things to come.

De Sisti

Back in a Giallorossi shirt after a decade away from the capital, De Sisti crossed paths with Lazio once again and scored a historic goal to win the derby on 1 December 1974. At the end of the 1-0 victory, the Curva Sud presented him with a Roman helmet.

De Sisti

A far cry from the woollen shirts of his early days at the youth academy in the 1950s, Giancarlo De Sisti ended his long and remarkable Giallorossi career wearing the futuristic lollipop design created by Pouchain. De Sisti, shown on the right here, watches on as Domenico Maggiora and Franco Peccenini press a Vicenza attacker during a 3-0 league victory at the Stadio Olimpico on 1 April 1979.
