Egypt boss: Salah can become one of the best in the world

Egypt coach Hector Cuper believes Roma's Mohamed Salah can develop into one of the world's best players over the coming seasons

Salah is currently preparing for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, where Egypt are set to face Mali, Ghana and Uganda in Group D of the competition.

And Cuper - who twice reached the final of the Champions League with Valencia, and finished second in Serie A during a spell with Inter Milan - believes his star player can go on to become of the biggest names in world football.

“Salah looks great," Cuper said. "On top of his strengths as a player, he’s also a good person. He’s professional, experienced and very humble, like virtually everyone here.

"If he continues the way he’s going, he can become one of the best players in the world. I would love that for him."

With Egypt, who last won the tournament in 2010, aiming high in this month's tournament, Cuper believes Salah will play an integral role.

“We have a base of excellent local players, courtesy of a very competitive domestic league," he said. "We then have several top-quality players like [Hull's Ahmed] Elmohamady, [Stoke City's] Ramadan Sobhi and [Arsenal's Mohamed] Elneny, who play in the Premier League, plus Salah.”
