Nainggolan: I want to continue this great run of form

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia on Friday, the midfielder acknowledged that coach Luciano Spalletti had helped him to become an even better player in recent months - and wants to continue in that vein over the remainder of the season.

How are things going at the moment?

“I’m having a good spell personally and so is the team. We’re being very consistent in our results. I hope that I can maintain my form and that the team continues to perform well. We’re showing good maturity, even if at times we could have done better.”

On Stefano Pioli…

“He was my coach during my first full season as a starter so I’m grateful for how much I developed under him. I’ve always thought he’s a great coach. I liked his way of working and now the results he’s getting with Inter are there for all to see. It’ll be a tough game between two teams with some great players. I hope it’s a good match and I hope we run out the winners.”

How big a boost would it be for Luciano Spalletti to extend his stay as Roma boss?

“Look at his results. He’s a great coach and demands lots of discipline in terms of our playing style. We try to give our all to implement his game. It’s not always easy, but we’re giving everything we have. The results have been excellent since he arrived, even more so for me on a personal level. Long may it continue.”

Were you expecting to play in a more advanced position this season?

“In our early training sessions I was in a deeper midfield position, but then he pushed me forward and I think it’s been a great decision. I’m liking the new position more and more and I’m just trying to get it down perfectly, the way he wants.”

How important is it for Roma to build a new stadium?

“Generally speaking, I think that owning your own stadium is part of this new cycle in football. There are too many old stadiums that need replacing in Italy. A club like Roma should have their own stadium – it would become a new home where we can achieve even better results.”
