The Brazilian opened the scoring at the Luigi Ferraris - his first goal for the Giallorossi - but was ultimately on the losing side, as Luis Muriel's 71st minute free-kick decided things.
The loss was undoubtedly a blow to Roma's aspirations in Serie A, but Peres insisted the team can fight back over the coming weeks.
How does this defeat change things?
"The only thing that changes is that we're further away from Juve, but we have to try and pick up wins elsewhere. There are a lot of matches still to play and we hope to bounce back as quickly as possible."
The defence couldn't repeat the good performances from the start of 2017. What was the difference?
"We let in three goals today after a few matches without conceding. We need to examine why. We should have killed the game off as we were twice in the lead."
You opening the scoring and it could have been a great game. Where was the problem – in the middle of the park or on the wings?
"It could have been the perfect afternoon, but we lost. We have to get back to winning ways at the first opportunity. The team did OK, but we were missing a few things that we've been able to do in recent matches. We conceded territory to the opposition and you pay the price for that."
The contest was affected by incidents like Samp's free kick and the penalty not given at the end.
"We're annoyed about this defeat because we had the contest within our grasp. We should have won the match, but we weren't good enough to kill it off. There were those incidents as well, but we mustn't complain. Let's keep our heads up; there are a lot of fixtures to go and we need to try and close the gap on Juventus again."
