Roma fan club nights prove big hit on USA tour

Roma’s pre-season tour of the United States may be over for another year but the club ensured that supporters who attended special fan nights across America won’t forget the Giallorossi’s recent visit anytime soon

As part of a new initiative to bring Roma’s international fan clubs closer to the team and better engage with supporters across the world, the club hosted a dedicated event in each of the cities the team visited.

Before taking on Paris Saint-Germain at Comerica Park, the club hosted a pre-game event at Harry’s Detroit sports bar – with a rather famous surprise guest.

"The pre-game event was very well organised,” said Giovanni Peluso, President of Roma Club New York, who was in Detroit for the game. “Abel Balbo was a big surprise and people of my generation always remember the 3-0 derby when he scored the second goal. It was also great to meet other Romanisti from Michigan and Canada at the event.”

In Harrison, New Jersey, the pre-Spurs game fan club party took place at the Spanish Pavillion – and once again Roma legend Balbo proved a big hit.

"What an awesome experience to finally meet face-to-face with the Roma club members in the US that we have been in contact with for so long,” said Tad Burns, Co-President of Roma Club Washington DC. “On top of that, getting to hear stories from Roma Legend Balbo made this excellent, well-organised event a memorable one. I can't wait until the next time Roma visits the US. Forza Roma!”

For the final fan club event of the tour, supporters at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, got a unique opportunity to meet the players and club management for a live question-and-answer session.

“The Q&A fan event organised by the club was a big surprise for me,” admitted Juha Ahtinen, a member of Roma Club Finlandia who was at the event. “I felt very privileged to get the chance to meet Mr Gandini, Monchi, Roma legend and Hall of Fame member Cafu and then Hector Moreno, Sadiq and Cengiz afterwards.

"The event was solid proof to myself that Roma really wants to tighten up the cooperation and dialogue with the Roma clubs around the world, something that Mr Gandini actually said on the night.”
