"This can't be real"! From Warsaw to the Olimpico, meet the winner of our "Fly to the Derby" contest

“I had to check the email three times to make sure I wasn’t the victim of some kind of scam. It felt so unreal at first that I genuinely couldn’t believe I had actually won”.

Sebastian’s first thought was exactly this: this can’t be real. But it was. We interviewed the 28-year-old fan from Warsaw who won “Fly to the Derby”, our contest which offered a return flight as a prize for two to Rome, two nights of hotel accommodation and two Tribuna Monte Mario tickets for the Roma v Lazio match, which he attended alongside his fiancée Kamila.

Why did you become a Roma fan?

“I’ve respected AS Roma for many years because of their history, passionate supporters, and players like Francesco Totti or Daniele De Rossi. I still remember the 3:0 against Barcelona in 2018.”

Had you ever been to Rome or the Stadio Olimpico before this experience?

“I had been to Rome and the Stadio Olimpico before. I previously attended the match between AS Roma and Atalanta this year, so I already had a chance to experience the atmosphere at the Olimpico, which was really impressive.”

What made you decide to enter the contest?

“I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to experience one of football’s most famous derbies and visit a legendary stadium one more time. I knew it would be something unforgettable.”

“The Derby della Capitale is definitely a must-have experience on every football fan’s bucket list. The atmosphere, passion, and choreography at the Stadio Olimpico make it one of the most unique derbies.”

What was your reaction when you found out you had won?

“I was honestly shocked because I had never won anything like that before. What made it even crazier was that I found out while I was sitting on the plane back to Poland from my previous city break to Rome and Napoli. I checked my email before the flight and suddenly realised that I would be back in Rome again just three weeks later. I had to check the email three times to make sure I wasn’t the victim of some kind of scam. It felt so unreal at first that I genuinely couldn’t believe I had actually won.”

How was your experience in Rome during the Derby weekend?

“My experience in Rome during the Derby weekend was amazing. The city has an incredible atmosphere, especially around such a big match, but what impressed me the most was the combination of football, food, and architecture. Walking through the streets of Rome and seeing historic buildings, monuments, and beautiful architecture almost everywhere felt unreal at times”.

What was it like to experience the Derby atmosphere at the Olimpico?

“The atmosphere at the Olimpico was incredible. The passion, chants, and energy from the AS Roma supporters made the experience unforgettable. The tifo before kickoff was amazing — seeing the entire stadium come together like that showed how much the Derby means to the fans and the city. I really like the moment when entire stadium sang the “Mai sola mai” song and the anthem before kickoff.”

Do you have a favourite Roma player, past or present?

“Without a doubt, Francesco Totti. Even people who aren’t big Roma fans respect what he did for the club and for football. His loyalty to Roma was incredible, and he’s one of the greatest footballers of his generation.”

How popular is Roma in Poland among football fans?

“Roma definitely has supporters in Poland, especially among fans who follow Serie A. Italian football has always had a strong audience here, and many people respect Roma because of the history and players like Totti, De Rossi, Dybala, Boniek, Ziolkowski and many many more.”

What would you say to Roma fans around the world who dream of coming to the Olimpico one day?

“If you ever get the chance, go for it. Experiencing a match at the Olimpico, especially a Derby, is something every football fan should experience at least once. The atmosphere, the passion, and the city itself make it unforgettable.”
