For the first time in a decade – and the fourth time in the club’s history – Roma are in the draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Here’s what you need to know about the next phase of the competition.

When is the quarter-final draw?

The draw for the last-eight of the competition takes place on Friday, at 12:00 CET. As usual, the draw will take place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Who else is in the quarter-final draw?

For the first time in eight years, two Italian clubs have reached this phase of the competition – with last year’s finalists Juventus having squeaked past Tottenham last week.

The rest of the sides currently in the draw reads like a who’s who of Europe’s elite: Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Sevilla have already secured their passage.

The final two clubs can join them on Wednesday night: Bayern Munich take a 5-0 first leg lead into their clash against Besiktas, while Barcelona and Chelsea are locked at 1-1 ahead of the return leg at the Camp Nou.

Teams in the draw: Manchester City, Juventus, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Roma, Sevilla

Teams still to qualify: Bayern Munich/Besiktas, Chelsea/Barcelona.

Are there any regulations for the draw?

No, this draw is completely unseeded and there is no domestic separation: meaning Roma could potentially be drawn against Juventus for the first time in the competition.

Where the first leg is played will depend on when each side is drawn out of the pot, meaning every eventuality and opponent is possible for all sides involved.

When do the games take place?

Games are scheduled for the first and second week of April, with two ties taking place on each night.

First leg: April 3/4

Second leg: April 10/11

How have Roma done in the quarter-finals in the past?

The Giallorossi have a poor record in this phase of the competition: progressing only once, in 1984 (when they went on to reach the final). On that occasion the team beat Berliner Dynamo (4-2 on aggregate), before edging Dundee United (3-2) in the semi-finals. Roma lost to Liverpool on penalties in the final.

In 2007, the Giallorossi were knocked out by Manchester United (8-3 on aggregate). A year later, they again lost to United – this time 3-0 over two legs.
