Nainggolan: From this day on I will be Belgium's first fan

Radja Nainggolan has given his reaction to Monday’s news that he has not been selected for Belgium’s World Cup squad.

The Red Devils announced their 28-man provisional squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia on Monday morning – with Nainggolan omitted from the list.

Following the news, the Roma midfielder posted a message on his official Instagram account.

Nainggolan wrote: “Very reluctantly, my international career comes to an end… I’ve always done everything I can to represent my country… Being yourself can be bothering… From this day on, I will be the first fan…”

Belgium's final 23-man squad will be confirmed at the start of June.

"Radja is a top player," coach Roberto Martinez said, explaining his decision. "The reason is tactical. In the last two years the team has worked in a specific manner. Other players had those [midfield] roles.

“We know that Radja has a very important role in his club and we cannot give him that role in our squad.”
