Coric becomes Roma's first signing of the summer

Coric, 21, joins the Giallorossi from Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb on a permanent basis, for an initial fee of €6 million.

In addition, should the player be transferred before 30 June 2020, Dinamo retain a right to 10 per cent of that fee or €2m – whichever figure is the greater.

The midfielder has signed a five-year contract that runs until 30 June 2023.

“I am very pleased to be at Roma, one of the biggest European clubs,” Coric said.

“I have given everything to reach this level, and I cannot wait for the chance to start showing what I am capable of.”

A technically gifted midfielder, Coric made his senior debut for Dinamo in 2014 – a day after his 17th birthday. He went on to make almost 150 first-team appearances for the club over the next four years, scoring 23 goals and providing 24 assists.

During his time with Dinamo, Coric won the Croatian League title four times and the Croatian Cup three times – including doing the double during the 2017-18 campaign.

He has played in both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League already during his fledgling career.

“I hope that, with hard work from the player and the guidance of the coach, that talent can develop even further – and we can enjoy its quality for a long time.”

Coric has four caps for Croatia, having made his debut for his country in 2016. He was included in the squad for the country’s 2016 European Championship campaign, although he did not make an appearance in the tournament.

He was not included in the squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Coric comes from a footballing familiar – his brother, Josip, is also a professional, while his father Miljenko has worked in a management capacity at NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac, the club where Coric began his career.

Coric went on to represent NK Zagreb at youth level, before subsequently making the decision to join Red Bull Salzburg’s academy setup.

After progressing through the ranks in Austria, Dinamo Zagreb signed a teenage Coric for a significant fee in 2013 – promoting him to the first-team soon after.
