Kluivert on final shortlist for 2018 European Golden Boy

Forward Justin Kluivert has been named on the final five-man shortlist for this year's edition of the prestigious European Golden Boy.

The prize, awarded to the best Under-21 player in European football, is decided by a number of newspapers around the continent.

Previous winners of the prize include Lionel Messi (2005), Paul Pogba (2013) and Kylian Mbappe (2017).

Kluivert will face strong competition for the prize from compatriot Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax), England international defender Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid) and Italy's Patrick Cutrone (AC Milan).

Kluivert, who joined Roma from Ajax in the summer, has enjoyed a positive start to life in the capital - providing an assist on his debut in Torino and subsequently scoring his first goal for the Giallorossi in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.

The winner of this year's prize will be announced at a gala event in Turin on December 17.
