A look at the Roma players at the World Cup

Manu Kone’s France, Donyell Malen’s Netherlands, Neil El Aynaoui’s Morocco, Evan Ndicka’s Ivory Coast and Zeki Celik’s Turkey – let’s get an update on the five Roma players competing in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

With the group stage nearly done and dusted, our players' performances at the 2026 World Cup have been positive. Four out of the five national teams featuring Roma players have secured their spots in the Round of 32.

Manu Kone – Francia (Gruppo I)

France have dominated the group so far with victories over Senegal (3-1) and Iraq (3-0), and now await the match against Norway (today at 21:00 CEST) to decide who claims top spot. Manu remained on the bench for the opener but played the full 90 minutes in the second match, making a valuable contribution in midfield for Didier Deschamps’ side, a team boasting immense depth who are gunning for World Cup glory.

Donyell Malen – Olanda (Gruppo F)

The Oranje finished top of their group. Following a 2-2 draw against Japan in the opener, they recorded a 5-1 win over Sweden and a 3-1 victory against Tunisia. Malen, who is still searching for his first goal of the tournament, has been a regular starter under coach Ronald Koeman, playing initially as a central striker and subsequently out on the wing. The draw has set up a meeting of Giallorossi players: in the Round of 32, the Netherlands will face El Aynaoui’s Morocco.

Neil El Aynaoui – Marocco (Gruppo C)

Out of the Roma players called up to the World Cup, Neil has featured the most. A starter in the Moroccan midfield, Neil was the team's driving force in the opener against Brazil (1-1), the narrow victory over Scotland (1-0), and the thrilling 4-2 win over Haiti, the only match in which he was substituted in the closing minutes. Morocco qualified as runners-up - only on goal difference - in their group behind Carlo Ancelotti's team and will now face Malen's Netherlands side.

Evan Ndicka – Costa d'Avorio (Gruppo E)

Hampered by an injury sustained at the end of the Serie A season with Roma, Ndicka remained on the bench for all three matches, with head coach Emerse Fae allowing him time to regain full fitness. However, Ivory Coast – spurred on by a Nicholas Pepe brace in their 2-0 win over Curacao - qualified as group runners-up, progressing past the World Cup group stage for the first time in their history. In the Round of 32, Evan and his team-mates will face either France (setting up a clash with Kone) or Norway. There is still time for Evan to play a key role.

Zeki Celik – Turchia (Gruppo D)

Vincenzo Montella's side - making only their third World Cup appearance in history, the last being in 2002 - suffered back-to-back defeats against Australia (2-0) and Paraguay (1-0), bowing out before the final matchday. However, Celik was a fixture in his country’s lineup. He started against the United States and was substituted in the 84th minute of a 3-2 victory, thanks to goals from Arda Guler, Baris Alper Yilmaz and Kaan Ayhan, which gave the Turks the consolation of beating one of the hosts.
