Mancini: 'I am the happiest man in the world'

Gianluca Mancini spoke to the media after his header decided the Derby della Capitale on Saturday evening.

Here's what the Italian defender had to say...

How do you feel right now?

"A derby won after a long time, with a goal I scored. I missed that feeling. I'm the happiest man in the world."

What does it mean to you to score in a derby?

"We haven't won in a long time, and the fans deserve it. Even when we were knocked out of the Coppa Italia, they were always there for us. The goal makes me happy, but it was important to win for the league and the Roma supporters."

You lost your shorts during the celebrations. Who did you give them to?

"I gave them to these amazing supporters. I kept the shirt because after scoring a goal in the derby, I will keep it forever."

You bowed to the Curva Sud after the goal, and at the end of the game, you waved a flag in celebration.

"I'm happy to be celebrating with our fans after the match, without disrespecting anyone. The bow is for these amazing fans. We have a mutual affection, and when I score, my bow goes to them because they are fantastic."

You appeared to be struggling one time during the game. Were you going to be replaced?

"Yes, I experienced a couple little issues, then another, and then I caught something. In these games, I only come out if I have a broken leg, otherwise, I can't watch from the bench."

Now there's Milan, but defeating them [Lazio] provides you with the right motivation.

"Yes, it provides the right motivation. It helps us work harder. We had just come off a string of poor derby results. However, the season does not end with this derby. It's a special game worth three points. We now have Milan and Udinese, a very busy month. We celebrate with our feet on the ground. We think about this month. Forza Roma!"
