After a near-perfect campaign, Alberto De Rossi's Primavera side were thwarted at the final hurdle - losing to Inter Milan in the national title final on Tuesday evening.
The Under-19s went ahead in Sassuolo but ultimately lost 2-1 after extra-time to the Nerazzurri, denying them the title despite topping the league standings this season.
Speaking after the game, De Rossi acknowledged that the result had not been what the side were after.
"Honestly we were hoping for a different ending," De Rossi said.
"Both teams deserved to be winners tonight. We had an amazing season, but in the end we weren't quite able to find that last touch to make sure the final was ours too.
"It's been a great season that could have been a remarkable one which, in my opinion, it deserved to be."
The role of the Primavera is not just to win, however, but to also prepare young players for their introduction to the first team - something that has successfully happened this season with the likes of Nicola Zalewski and Felix Afena-Gyan.
Many others have also made their senior debuts.
"I would have to also credit all my colleagues who have played their role too," De Rossi added.
"Because we are the showpiece final [for the youth sector] but all the hard work that colleagues do throughout the age groups is extremely important too."
