Roma 0-0 Genoa: Zaniolo's late goal chalked off

A dramatic, controversial finish capped off a frustrating afternoon for Roma on Saturday, as they drew 0-0 with Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico.

Jose Mourinho's 100th game as a coach in Serie A did not end with him equalling the record for most victories in that span, as Nicolo Zaniolo saw a 90th minute winner ruled out after a delayed VAR intervention.

The forward, booked for taking his shirt off during his celebrations of the goal, was then shown a red card for dissent in reaction to the VAR decision - as both sides finished with 10 men, after Leo Ostigard was earlier dismissed for the visitors.

The Giallorossi had chances to win the game but seemed to see their shots blocked on almost every occasion, with substitute Felix Afena-Gyan flashing one attempt wide and Chris Smalling nodding over from close range too.

Alexander Blessin's men defended diligently throughout, even if they ultimately needed the officials to save them from defeat.

The Giallorossi are back in action on Tuesday: they travel to face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.
