Leicester City 1-1 Roma: First leg ends finely poised

Roma will head back home with everything to play for next week, after they drew 1-1 with Leicester City on Thursday evening.

The first leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final ended all-square at the Leicester City Stadium, with Lorenzo Pellegrini's early strike ultimately cancelled out by a close-range finish that deflected off Gianluca Mancini.

With no away goals in UEFA competitions, that now means that both sides will go back to the Stadio Olimpico in seven days' time with hopes of progressing - if neither side can win in 90 minutes, extra time and penalties could be needed to separate them.

The hosts largely dominated possession throughout the game but they went behind early on, as a perfect pass from Nicola Zalewski set Pellegrini up for a first-time finish that flew through the legs of Kasper Schmeichel.

Leicester pushed in search of an equaliser from that point onwards but were largely frustrated, as James Maddison in particular was reduced to speculative attempts from distance.

In the second half, however, the introduction of Harvey Barnes helped inject some additional threat for Brendan Rodgers side - and it was ultimately the winger who created the chance that Lookman swept home via the covering Mancini.

A winner on the night was sought by both sides, with Schmeichel denying substitute Sergio Oliveira from close range after good work from Tammy Abraham.

The full-time whistle followed soon after, leaving both sides knowing exactly what they will need to do at a sold-out Olimpico next week if they are to reach the final in Tirana.
