AS Roma launch new "1-5-2-2 #SaveTheTactic” campaign

Ahead of the upcoming International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, AS Roma has launched a new initiative to combat the problem of violence and threats against women

AS Roma has renewed its commitment to addressing the problem with a new campaign: 1-5-2-2 #SaveTheTactic.

Men’s team head coach José Mourinho, along with club captains Elisa Bartoli and Lorenzo Pellegrini, have become spokespeople for the Giallorossi club's new campaign to continue to keep the spotlight on the importance of asking for help in overcoming violence.

“It's a privilege to be part of this initiative," explained Bartoli, captain of Roma Women.

“I'm sure that once again the fans will be united in support of this important initiative.”

In a match, as in life, there are decisions that can change the course of events. 1-5-2-2 is not the new formation with which the Giallorossi teams will take the field, but the hotline number to call inside the European Union if you are a victim of violence or stalking.

1522 is the public service promoted by the Italian Department for Equal Opportunities. A free number, active 24 hours a day, specialist trained operators are on hand to respond to requests for help and support from victims of violence and stalking.

“I am grateful to AS Roma for this awareness-raising initiative, which once again this year puts them in the front line in the fight against gender-based violence," explained Elena Bonetti, Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family.

"Calling 1522 allows many women to get away from violence: it is something that, together, we need to make sure we keep on building awareness about.

“AS Roma's commitment is a very important example in the world of sport, which is one of the most important places for education and citizenship, especially for the growth of the younger generations.”

The 1522 service plays an important role as a portal through which those who use it can access local support services: over 70% of callers during the second quarter of 2021 were subsequently referred to a third-party service for assistance (a figure that has increased compared to the first quarter of 2021).

Of those, 89.5% (a total of 2,678 victims) were referred to an Anti-Violence Centre.

1-5-2-2 collects and continues the unwavering work done in the last year through the campaign "Amami e Basta" (‘Just Love Me’), not only in raising awareness of the importance of the ways to report and escape situations of domestic violence, but also in raising funds to continue the many Roma Cares activities in this field.

Continuing in that vein, this year the club has decided to donate 50% of the ticket revenues from Thursday’s Europa Conference League home game against Zorya Luhansk to the Giallorossi foundation.

In addition, the players from both the men’s and women’s teams will wear a shirt with a campaign patch.

Match-worn jerseys be auctioned off, with the proceeds enabling Roma Cares to continue training courses for women who are victims of violence.

This year the Giallorossi Foundation will once again benefit from the invaluable assistance of ManpowerGroup and its Human Age Institute Foundation, with which it will continue to support women with the dual objective of enhancing their personal potential and providing professional training in line with their career choices.

Marilena Ferri, Secretary General of Human Age Institute Foundation, said: "Through work it is possible to support change and the resumption of a self-sufficient life, this is the approach that with Human Age Institute Foundation places at the core of many of our projects.

“We have believed in and supported "Amami e Basta" since its inception, making available the experience of the ManpowerGroup Foundation in guiding and supporting female victims of violence, to support, through the learning of employability and learnability skills, the construction of a personal and professional project.

“Our Foundation's mission is to support the development of individual potential, to activate a process of evolution in the person, in the organisations and in society, favouring the employability of people, in particular those who find it most difficult to enter the world of work.”
