Jose Mourinho's fifth competitive game in charge of Roma will mark his 1,000th in club management, and it's safe to say that there have been more than a few memorable matches along the way.
Here, we look at five of those 999 games that helped to both create and reinforce the mythical coaching qualities of one of the best to ever do it.

This tie was arguable the one that truly made Mourinho, who relished his moment on the biggest stage by outpointing iconic United boss Alex Ferguson over two legs on Porto's route to unlikely Champions League glory that season.
Having gone behind at home in the first leg, a Benni McCarthy double ensured the Portuguese side took a 2-1 lead to Old Trafford but following Paul Scholes' 32nd-minute strike in the second leg, Mourinho's team were headed for the exit on away goals.
But Mourinho's team would not lay down and Costinha tucked home in the 90th minute as the visitors earned a dramatic victory in the exact manner Ferguson made famous, sparking Mourinho's now iconic sprint down the touchline as Porto went delirious.

Just a few months later, Mourinho was in the Chelsea dugout for the first time and his competitive debut saw him, fittingly, go up against Ferguson once again.
This time it was early Eider Gudjohnsen goal that gave Chelsea all three points, in what may not have been a classic, but was an immediate laying down of the gauntlet by Mourinho - who had already sent the British media wild by declaring himself 'a Special One' upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Those comments, and the statement win that immediately followed them, sparked a changing of the guard as Chelsea went on to lift their first Premier League title by the end of the season and they followed it up with a second league a year later.

Even in defeat, Mourinho is a master of the art and the manner in which his side overcame Barcelona over two legs of their Champions League semi-final tie in 2010 was incredible.
A 3-1 victory at the San Siro put Inter in control as they headed to Mourinho's old stomping ground at the Camp Nou but Thiago Motta's sending off inside 30 minutes suddenly turned the game on its head.
Needing just two goals to advance, Pep Guardiola's hosts - a side that included Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Xavi - were met with fierce Inter resistance and could only grab what was a consolatory strike with seven minutes to play as Mourinho proved he is one of the best defensive coaches the world has ever seen.
His full-time celebration, running across the pitch as Barcelona staff turned on the sprinklers in an attempt to thwart him, only further underlined his ability to get inside the head of almost any opponent.

A year later, Mourinho again resurrected an iconic battle as he took the reins of Real Madrid and butted heads with Guardiola as regularly as he possibly could.
Mourinho would fall four points short in the league in his first season at the Bernabeu, but he ended the campaign by turning the tide in Real's favour by beating Barca in the Copa del Rey final.
Of all his victories in finals over the years, this may not be his most remembered, but by seeing off Barcelona in extra-time, Mourinho laid the foundation to go on to beat Barca (who he also lost to in the Champions League semi-finals that year) to the title the following season.

Brendan Rodgers' hosts were enjoying a 16-game unbeaten run in the Premier League and were seemingly sauntering to the title when they met Chelsea - five points further back - on Matchday 36 of the 2013-14 season.
But Mourinho was far from there to roll out the red carpet and Chelsea masterfully picked apart their Anfield hosts thanks to goals from Demba Ba and Willian.
This game is now most known for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's slip on the halfway line from which Ba profited for the opener, but it should also be remembered as yet another Mourinho masterclass as the now Roma boss made a mockery of Rodgers' high flying outfit, whose season sank after this loss.
Shorn of plenty of players and forced into a makeshift formation for the game, Chelsea nevertheless defended resolutely against what had been up until then a rampart Liverpool attack, clinching a victory that would ultimately ensure Liverpool's wait for a Premier League title would continue.
