Baldi growing in confidence ahead of new campaign

Goalkeeper Rachele Baldi was in positive spirits, after helping Roma Women to another pre-season victory on Thursday evening.

Baldi, a summer signing for the Giallorosse, started Thursday’s friendly against her old side Empoli Ladies – as they ran out 3-2 winners in their second successive win of pre-season.

“It was great to see my old teammates, and to start the game,” Baldi said.

“It was an important test heading into the season – we have a few things we still need to work on though, we know we can get a lot better.”

With just over a week until the new season starts, Baldi believes she is integrating into the squad nicely.

“Yes. I’ve settled in well, all the girls have really welcomed me – they are a great bunch,” she said.

“Out on the pitch we are all very tough on each other, but at the same time we accept mistakes and try and pick each other up. I talk with the defence a lot to make sure we stay focused.”

After pre-season wins over Florentia and now Empoli, the Giallorosse open Serie A with an away trip against Sassuolo next Sunday.

“We are working hard, we need to get stronger and tougher,” Baldi added.

“We have a lot of talent, a lot of ability – but we need to make sure we put all of that out there on the pitch.

“From next weekend we need to make sure we leave it all out there on the pitch.”
