Club opens up call centre to help elderly season ticket holders find food and supplies

AS Roma today opened up its call centre to seaon ticket holders over the age of 60 who need help in finding food or pharmacological supplies during the Covid-19 crisis.

AS Roma today opened up its call centre to seaon ticket holders over the age of 60 who need help in finding food or medical supplies during the Covid-19 crisis.

The latest initiative is part of the club’s new ASSIEME [‘Together’] umbrella campaign – a way for Roma Cares to better coordinate and communicate the many different activities the club is organising to support fans throughout this emergency period.

In March, as the coronavirus began to claim first hundreds, then thousands of lives in Italy, the club implemented a series of initiatives to support hospitals and those most in need.

The new ASSIEME umbrella campaign will now house all of the actions taken by the Roma Cares foundation during the Covid-19 epidemic.

In this latest phase, the Giallorossi call centre will be operational for all season ticket holders over 60 who need help in finding food or pharmaceutical products.

At a time of incredibly high demand for home delivery services and some possible uncertainty from older members of the community about the operators who perform these services, Roma has managed to create a network of trusted companies that will support the club in assisting elderly supporters.

The club’s call centre operators will be able to identify the companies nearest to where the Giallorossi supporters live who will be able to deliver or sell the products fans need.

Those who want to use the service can call +39 (0) 689 38 6000 or send an email to assieme@asroma.it.

The new initiative was born after the club delivered over 250 Roma Cares packs of food and medical supplies to season ticket holders over the age of 75 last weekend.

The feedback the club received was that many older fans were scared to leave home to go to buy groceries but were either unsure or unable to order online.

AS Roma’s first Covid-19 initiative was to record and broadcast a public health awareness video with five players and coach Paulo Fonseca, before the Serie A season had been postponed.

The club then launched a fundraiser with an initial target of €500,000 to buy urgently required medical supplies and equipment to support the city's hospitals dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The total collected so far has exceeded €540,000 and eight ventilators and eight new intensive care beds have already been ordered with some of the money raised.

In the meantime, over 19,000 masks, over 19,000 gloves and more than 5,000 bottles of sanitizing gel have already been distributed among hospitals, parishes and family shelter homes in the capital.

The HEROES project was launched on social media, designed to give fans the chance to show their appreciation for the doctors and nurses who battle the Coronavirus every day. And on Saturday, the club announced that it will dedicate the first home match played in front of fans to medical workers, inviting 5,000 of them as special guests of the club.

In the next few days, AS Roma will communicate more new initiatives that will fall within the scope of the ASSIEME umbrella campaign, to continue supporting the most needy during the COVID-19 epidemic.
