Stat Attack: Facts worth knowing ahead of the derby

Ahead of Sunday's huge game at the Stadio Olimpico, we've rounded up a few facts and figures worth knowing about the contest...

    No. 154 in the league

Sunday's game will be the 154th league meeting between the two sides. Roma lead the standings with 65 victories, with Lazio having won 46. The derby has ended in a draw on 62 occasions. If we divide things down to only league derbies where the Giallorossi were the 'home' side, the record reads: 29 Roma wins, 15 Lazio wins, 32 draws.

    Last time out

In this fixture last season, Roma won out 3-1 at the Olimpico. Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring with a backheel, before Ciro Immobile equalised. Aleksandar Kolarov fired home a free-kick, however, and Federico Fazio's header clinched victory.

    Red card crazy

Since 2000, derby matches have seen an impressive total of 24 red cards - at least two more than any other game in Europe's top five leagues.

    Top scorers against Lazio

Dino Da Costa and Francesco Totti share the spot at the top of these particular standings, with 11 goals apiece. Rodolfo Volk and Marco Delvecchio follow that due, with nine.

    Roma against Simone Inzaghi

The Giallorossi have faced the Biancocelesti boss on no fewer than nine occasions - winning four, and losing three.

    Goals in a row

Between 1956-59 Dino Da Costa scored in eight straight derby matches (including two in the Coppa Italia), scoring 11 goals in total. The forward also scored against Lazio back in 1955 - but that was a friendly.

Goals in a row... by season

This record goes to Marco Delvecchio - who scored at least once in the derby in six straight seasons, from 1997-98 until 2002-03.

    Dzeko 98

Edin Dzeko is now just two goals away from reaching 100 for the Giallorossi - and becoming just the seventh Roma player ever to reach such a figure. He currently sits four goals behind Vincenzo Montella on the all-time list. In his career to date, he has scored twice against Lazio in derby meetings - both of them coming back in the 2015-16 season.

    Time to turn it around

Roma have lost their last two home games at the Stadio Olimpico, against Torino and Juventus. Not since the 2004-05 season have the Giallorossi lost three in a row at home.

    Lazio's special shirt

To celebrate 120 years since the club was founded, Lazio have launched a special commemorative shirt that takes its cues from the one their way between mid-1998 and December 1999. They played three derby matches in that shirt, failing to win any of them: drawing 3-3 in 1999 (when Roma made a stunning comeback), losing 3-1 at the start of 1999 (a first Roma win in the derby for almost five years) and then being beaten 4-1 at the start of the 1999-2000 season (when Delvecchio and Montella ran riot).
