Training Match: Roma score 12 against Tor Sapienza

Roma's pre-season moved up a gear on Thursday afternoon, as the side completed their first training match of the new campaign - beating Serie D side Tor Sapienza 12-0.

Coach Paulo Fonseca put out two different line-ups for the two halves for the game at Trigoria, as he got a good look at his new charges in a non-competitive match situation.

New signings Pau Lopez and Leonardo Spinazzola both featured from kick-off - with Spinazzola among the goalscorers before his half-time withdrawal.

Patrick Schick (two goals) looked sharp in the first half, after Diego Perotti had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Former Primavera midfielder Emanuele Spinozzi also notched as the Giallorossi moved into cruise control with a 5-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Mirko Antonucci grabbed a hat-trick (although his first may technically have been an own goal, deflecting in off the goalkeeper) while Alessandro Florenzi scored twice - as Cengiz Under and Edin Dzeko also found the back of the net.

“It was a positive game. Obviously the level of the opposition was not at the highest, but nevertheless the players attempted to focus on the things we have been working on in training and start putting them into practice,” Fonseca said.

“Over time the players will get more fluid with that, but it was a good start.”

On pre-season as a whole so far, the coach added to Roma TV: “The players have been working hard, they’ve listened well, they are trying to do everything they can. So I think it has been a positive start to pre-season so far, thanks to everyone’s desire to work hard.

“We are still missing a few players, and once everyone is back we will push forward with even more determination.”

Fonseca's side are back in action in similar circumstances on Saturday; this time Trastevere will be the opposition.
