Roma 4-0 Frosinone: Match report, reaction and key statistics

Roma got back to winning ways on Wednesday night, romping to an emphatic 4-0 win over Frosinone at the Stadio Olimpico.

Cengiz Under got the Giallorossi off to the perfect start - scoring an impressive individual goal inside the first 100 seconds.

That definitely seemed to settle any nerves that might have existed in the wake of the team's recent run of poor form, with Javier Pastore doubling the advantage soon after with another brilliant backheel - at the same end, and in almost identical style, to his one against Atalanta a few weeks ago.

Stephan El Shaarawy and Aleksandar Kolarov also got on the scoresheet for the Giallorossi.

In positive preparation for Saturday's derby meeting with Lazio, Cengiz's beautiful solo goal in the very first flushes of the match was absolutely what the doctor ordered. The Turkish winger nutmegged one defender, beat two others, before unleashing a powerful shot from 30 yards that Marco Sportiello was unable to keep out.

When Pastore backheeled home from inside the box - in what is quickly becoming trademark fashion - the home side were on cruise control, and the points were effectively wrapped up when El Shaarawy tapped home after a good run and pass from Cengiz.

The second half was about consolidation - and landmarks. Nicolo Zaniolo made his Serie A debut for the Giallorossi as Luca Pellegrini also came on to make his first ever appearance for his boyhood club.

And the full-back celebrated in style, providing the assist for Kolarov's fourth and final goal.

Elsewhere, Davide Santon made his first start for the club.

First half

21' - Big chance for Schick - he gets a toe onto El Shaarawy's low cross, but Sportiello is able to make the save from close range.

26' - Chance! Kolarov squares the ball for Pastore inside the box, but the midfielder can't steer his first-time shot on target!

27' - CROSSBAR! Incredible fingertip stop from Sportiello to turn Schick's shot onto the frame of the goal!

27' - GOAL! What a strike - almost a carbon copy of his goal against Atalanta! This time it is Santon with the cross, and an identical touch from Pastore to steer the ball inside the far post! 2-0!

32' - Save from Sportiello to deny El Shaarawy from 25 yards!

35' - GOAL! This time Cengiz Under turns provider, cutting in from byline and squaring the ball for El Shaarawy to have the simplest of tap-ins! This is more like it! 3-0!

Second half

64' - CROSSBAR AGAIN! Cengiz cut inside and tries to cross; the defender gets a faint touch and sends the ball spinning over Sportiello... but the woodwork saves the goalkeeper!

71' - Chance for Zaniolo, but his snapshot from the edge of the box goes over!

78' - Zaniolo stings the palms of Sportiello with a powerful drive from 25 yards out.

85' - Smart turn (again) on the edge of the box from Cengiz, but this time his curling strike is easy for Sportiello.

88' - GOAL! A brilliant assist on his debut for Luca Pellegrini, who makes a galloping run down the left flank, before cutting back an inviting ball that Kolarov thumps in off the underside of the bar! Daje! 4-0!

90' | Chance for Frosinone - Yussif Chibsah crashes a shot against the post after a free-kick smashed into the wall falls perfectly at his feet.

ROMA REACTION

“It was a good game, today we played with a different mentality. We tried to play a bit more, to create more chances – and luckily a few of them went in. It is a really important win for us, to improve our confidence ahead of the next game. We know how important that one is."

- Javier Pastore

“This is a starting point for us – we’ve done nothing. It was important for us to get three points, see some of the play that we’ve been missing, score goals and get confidence back into many of the players. This will allow us to approach the derby in the best way possible.”

- Eusebio Di Francesco

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Giallorossi are back at the Olimpico on Saturday - as they face Lazio in the Derby della Capitale.

Indeed, the next two games are at home, with Viktoria Plzen the visitors in the Champions League the following Tuesday.
