Florenzi goal shortlisted for FIFA Puskás Award

Florenzi goal shortlisted for FIFA Puskás Award

The accolade has been handed out by football's governing body since 2009 and is awarded to the player who has scored the best goal of the year.

So far, the FIFA Puskás Award has been won by Cristiano Ronaldo, Hamit Altintop, Neymar, Miroslav Stoch, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and James Rodriguez.

Images of Florenzi’s wonder goal made their way around the world just seconds after the ball hit the back of the net in the 31st minute of Roma’s opening Group E match against Barcelona.

Playing at right-back on the occasion, Florenzi received the ball in his own half, sprinted across the halfway line and noticed Marc-Andre ter Stegen standing off his line. The Italian took one touch before hitting the cleanest of strikes that went in off the post. Cue manic celebrations within the Stadio Olimpico and astonishment from Florenzi himself.

Florenzi is joined on the 10-player shortlist by Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Philippe Mexes, Gonzalo Castro, David Ball, Wendell Lira, Marcel Ndjeng, Esteban Ramirez and United States Women's National Team midfielder Carli Lloyd.

Roma fans can vote for Florenzi's goal on FIFA's official website by clicking here.
