5. Matteo Politano

A regular substitute and occasional starter at Sassuolo, Politano finished the season in fine form, scoring three goals in the last two matches to help the club qualify for the Europa League.

The Roman-born right winger netted five goals and chipped in with two assists in 28 appearances over the course of the year, including a memorable goal and assist against Roma in September.

4. Lukasz Skorupski

Despite missing the end of the season with a hand injury, Skorupski had an excellent year at Empoli. The Polish goalkeeper had nine clean sheets in 31 appearances - ranking him 11th in Serie A in terms of most clean sheets kept.

Like Leandro Paredes, Skorupski was an essential part of Empoli’s squad and a consistent starter when available.

3. Antonio Sanabria

Although a hamstring injury reduced his playing time this season, Sanabria exceeded all expectations at Sporting Gijon this year.

The Paraguayan international scored 11 goals in 28 appearances - with a scoring rate of a goal every 198 minutes. The forward also set a record at the club for being the youngest player to score a hat-trick in a match.

All in all, Sanabria had quite the season to remember and will look to build on it while playing at the Copa America Centenario this summer.

2. Federico Ricci

Loan

The Roman-born Ricci turned in some sterling performances for Crotone this season, helping the club to achieve Serie A promotion for the first time ever.

As a regular in the starting lineup, Ricci proved to be one of the top young players in Serie B, scoring 11 goals and tallying eight assists to showcase his dual-threat ability. While he predominantly played as a right winger, Ricci showed the potential to be just as dangerous on the left wing as well.

1. Leandro Paredes

Loan

Not a guaranteed starter at the beginning of the season when he was first loaned to Empoli, Paredes quickly turned into a key cog in their midfield.

Although he scored two goals and added an assist, his true value was on the defensive end this year. The Argentine midfielder showed his mettle by making 2.5 tackles per match, as well as making 1.5 interceptions per game.

Paredes also showed great ability to possess and distribute the ball, completing 1.8 dribbles per match to go along with an 83.9% passing clip and 1.2 key passes per match.
