Nainggolan: Tough win but vital for Champions League

Radja: Tough win but vital for Champions League

The Belgian midfielder believes it was hard work getting the victory against Torino but nevertheless a crucial step towards Champions League qualification for Roma.

The Belgian midfielder stressed how he and his team-mates wanted the three points at all costs, adding that getting them despite an under-par performance was a show of character and strength from the team.

"It was a tough win but vital for our Champions League hopes," Nainggolan said at the end of the game.

"We wanted to win in order to stay in the fight with Napoli for second place. The fact we got it without playing as we know we can do shows character."

What a comeback that was...

"Yes, we pressed high up the pitch in the final 25 minutes and won a really difficult game. Once again, when a team manages to win playing badly it's a sign of a great team spirit and this is also important in football."

What did you say to Totti after the celebration?

"We all have a great relationship with him. We were joking before the game and I told him that even if he played five minutes he would score. Then he actually went on to score two and we were even more delighted. Totti has always got loads to give and today he showed how much desire he has. I think that if he's able to turn games like he did today he still can be an important player for us."

Were you lacking the right mentality?

"We need to admit that Torino played really well, especially on the wings. We were chasing the ball a lot in the first half. The crowd began to boo us and then when it was 3-2 everyone was suddenly more ecstatic than we were. I don't think it's right to boo your own team when they're losing and then be happier than them when they pull out a victory. I think these two things contradict each other a bit, but I think that's just the way it is here. However, I do believe we can be very happy with our progress seeing as we haven't lost for 13 games."

Do you go into the Napoli game in an easier frame of mind thanks to this victory?

"Yes, we'll be calmer but Napoli are a great side and one of their best players makes his return against us. It will be a tough match because they've been able to win well even without Gonzalo Higuain, but I believe that when you play against top sides finding motivation isn't a problem and you shouldn't feel tiredness.

"We have to focus on winning and seeing as we're seven points ahead of Inter with four games to play, we should be thinking about second place rather than third."
