Roma seeded third for Champions League group stage draw

Recent results in the ongoing Champions League play-offs mean Roma now know they will be in Pot 3 for the group stage draw when it takes place later this month.

The draw for the group stage of the European competition is based on a seeding system, with the eight groups comprised of one team from each of four pre-set 'pots'.

The league champions from the eight countries with the best UEFA co-efficient are automatically allocated into Pot 1, with Pots 2, 3 and 4 then sorted based on UEFA's club co-efficient rankings: with those with the best recent performances in Europe in Pot 2 and those with the worst of the 32 group stage qualifiers put into Pot 4.

Teams cannot face another club in the same Pot as them, or another club from the same domestic competition.

The draw for this year's group stage is scheduled for the evening of 24 August 2017 in Monaco.

The third play-off qualifying round defeats for Ajax and Dynamo Kiev this week mean that Roma are guaranteed to be in Pot 3 for the group stage.
