Gasperini’s comments following Torino v Roma

Here are the words of Giallorossi coach.

A strong performance from your side, impressive numbers and a centre-forward who made a devastating impact.

"When you have a player of that level, the whole attacking potential of the team improves. We scored three goals, with one disallowed. We created a lot and really wanted this win — it’s a very positive sign".

The understanding between Dybala and Malen was impressive.

"The first goal was outstanding. Paulo produced a truly top-level performance. When everything clicks around him, Dybala’s level rises as well. That’s what we’ll try to build on heading into the next matches".

Malen’s off-the-ball movement is an uncommon quality. Roma now attacks with a greater threat.

"I’d say so, yes. For me, he has exactly the characteristics I was looking for. He has this ability to lose his marker not by playing with his back to goal, but by making diagonal runs and moving into space. He finishes with speed and power. These are fundamental qualities for a team like ours. We try to build this kind of moves inside the box. He can score a lot of goals".

Do you see Malen more as a centre-forward?

"In my ideal scenario, I hope he can play as a centre-forward for a long time. Football brings many matches, and he has the versatility to play wider, but he is definitely an attacker and needs to be used close to the box". 

You also brought Vaz on straight away.

"He has some very good qualities. He’s clearly very young — a 2007-born player. It’s not easy to play in Italy, and the best way to help him grow is to give him space. He has talent and still needs to work a lot, but Roma has made two good signings: one for now and the other more for the long term. When that’s the case, you feel well supported".
