The Spaniard, who arrived at the club in April, paid tribute to Spalletti for his hard work over the last 18 months, which culminated in a second place finish in Serie A this season.
"I wanted to be the one who opened this press conference to announce the end of the club's working relationship with Luciano Spalletti," Monchi said. "My own personal relationship with him has been very short – just over a month – but very intense.
"As I said in my first news conference here, I had a very high opinion of Spalletti before joining this club. Now, having worked with him and seen how he coaches, I have an even higher opinion – both of Spalletti the man and Spalletti the coach.
"Today is the end of a chapter and we're extremely grateful to Spalletti: the results he's obtained speak for themselves and tell you just how good a coach he is.
"Today is also the start of a new chapter and we're determined to keep growing the only way we know how to – through hard work."
The sporting director closed by underlining the friendly terms on which the parties have parted ways.
"Luciano, I hope we might cross paths again and be able to work together once more at some point in the future," he added. "You should know that Trigoria is and always will be your home."
