Goals from Silvano Benedetti, Giuseppe Giannini and Ruggiero Rizzitelli – plus a thunderbolt from Thomas Hassler – secured the win for Vujadin Boskov’s Roma side to give the Giallorossi an early-season boost. However, Roma were unable to build on the victory and ended the campaign in mid-table.
