Bosnia & Herzegovina's hopes of reaching next summer's tournament in Russia were dealt a significant blow, as they suffered a 4-3 defeat against already-qualified Belgium.
Edin Dzeko played all 90 minutes but could not get on the scoresheet, as a late strike from Yannick Ferreira Carrasco loosened Bosnia's grip on a play-off spot.
And it was Greece and Kostas Manolas who took advantage, securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Cyprus in Nicosia to jump into second in Group H.
Manolas - who played all 90 minutes - and his teammates now know that a win over Gibraltar next week will clinch second in the group, leaving Bosnia & Herzegovina on the outside regardless of the result of their away meeting with Estonia.
Greece will have to wait for results elsewhere before being assured a play-off spot, however.
