Federico Fazio did not need long to decide to sign a new long-term contract extension with Roma.
The Argentina international signed a new three-year deal with the club on Sunday, which runs until June 2020.
Speaking during a live Facebook Q&A to officially confirm his renewal, Fazio admitted it was an easy decision to commit his future to the club.
"Ever since I arrived here I’ve got on really well with all my team-mates, the staff and everyone who works here at Roma,” Fazio said. “I love the city and I’m really happy here.
"It’s great news that I’m going to be here until 2020."
Fazio does not have much time to celebrate, however, with the Giallorossi set to face Chelsea in a huge Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
"First of all we need to be smart,” he noted. “We want the three points because that would be really good for us in terms of the table. That said, we know that one point is better than none so we need to play intelligently.
“They’re a good side – we played them two weeks ago. It’s going to be a great game. All of the players are happy to be involved in these games, but we need to be prepared. It’s a vital game and it would be amazing to get the three points. We’re halfway through the group and we’re doing well, but we need to keep it up.”
The team go into the game with plenty of confidence, especially after reeling off three successive 1-0 wins since that draw with the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
"Yes. 1-0 is better than 3-2 [for us defenders]! In any game, the most important thing is the three points, so we’re all delighted,” Fazio noted. “We’ve been working hard with [Eusebio] Di Francesco all season. We let other people talk and we just get on with it. The most important thing is to work as one. This is my second year with [Kostas] Manolas and [Juan] Jesus and my first with [Hector] Moreno, but he speaks Spanish so it’s easier for me to communicate with him. It’s been easy to adapt and work together as well as we have done."
He added: “Rotation is really important. We’re all working towards the same objective and that’s vital. You know that if you don’t play one game, you’ll play in the next one. If you’re on the bench, like I was against Napoli, you know you need to be ready to come on.
“It’s really important for the team and for the season moving forward, because there are so many games. It’s essential that we help each other out."
